The main factors that should be considered in selecting  the type of screening equipment are: the characteristics of the screening material(the content of the material under the sieve, the content of the difficult-grain particles, the moisture and clay content of the material, the shape of the material, the specific gravity of the material, etc.), the structure of the screening machine (screen area, number of mesh layers, mesh size and shape, mesh area ratio, screen movement mode, amplitude, frequency, etc.), requirements of the beneficiation process (treatment capacity, screening efficiency, screening method, sifter tilt angle,) etc.

In addition to the above-mentioned influencing factors, the selection should also comply with the eight basic principles:
1. After determining the screening area, the width of the screen surface should be at least 2.5 to 3 times the size of the larger material, so as to prevent the sieve from being jammed by the bulk material.
2. For the sieve to be in good working condition, the ratio of the length to the width of the sieve should be selected within the range of 2 to 3.

3. Reasonable screen material and structure should be selected to suit the working conditions.
4. Determination of the size of the mesh. When the screening device is used for fine particle screening, the size of the sieve is 2 to 2.2 times of the separation particle size, and the maximum is not more than 3 times. The screening equipment was used for medium particle size screening with a mesh size of 1.2 times the separation particle size. When the screening device is used for screening coarse materials, the mesh size is 1.05 times the separation particle size. For the probability sieve, the mesh size is generally 2 to 2.5 times the actual separation particle size.
5. Determine if a double or multi-layer screen is used. When the size range of the sieved material is wide, the double-layer sieve is used as a single-layer sieve, which can improve the processing capacity of the screening machine, and can protect the lower screen and prolong the service life of the lower screen. The selection of the size of the upper sieve mesh of the double-layer sieve should generally be determined according to the particle size characteristics of the ore. Consider the sieve amount of the upper sieve, which is equivalent to the particle size of 55-65% of the original feed amount. size.

Note: When the content of the sieve in the raw material exceeds 50%, the number of difficult sieve particles is large, the clay in the material is high and the water content is high, the double layer sieve should be avoided as a single layer sieve.
6. Determine the effective working area of the sieve. The screening area calculated according to the production process requirements is the effective area of the sieve, and the specification of the sieve is the standard area of the sieve. For the sieve of the medium-size material screening, the effective screening area should be 0.8 to 0.85 of the standard area of the sieve. Times. Of course, this is closely related to the opening ratio of the sieve holes on the sieve surface.
7. Heavy-duty vibrating screens are used for materials above 200mm; round moving screens are used for materials above 10mm; linear vibrating screens and high-frequency vibrating screens are used for de-mudging, dewatering and grading.
